The naval station at Guantánamo is split by a bay of the same name, with east and west sides of the base referred to as Leeward and Windward, respectively. A regularly departing ferry connects the two sides, bringing Windward-bound visitors from a landing near Leeward Point to one near McCalla Airfield. While the Leeward side of the base features many attractions for GTMO residents, including recreation areas, a fishing gear center, a movie lyceum and an airport, the Windward side is considered the main side and houses heart of the base community.
